Mitch Weiss Photographer
Bio

Mitch Weiss’ visual language flows from inspiration by Renaissance craftsmen and artists who valued originality and attention to detail. Weiss’ technical virtuosity allows him to transform images into what he calls viewing windows, acting as a medium to portray the core essence of the subject. Fully dedicated to visual expression, Weiss devotes much of his time to the study of drawing and painting under Paul Goodnight, to hone his sensibilities and educate his eye ensuring growth as a photographer.
Weiss has evolved a mature vision usually reserved for decades of experience, all the while, maintaining the energy and daring of his youth. Specializing in high-end portraiture, Weiss has captured some of the most iconic faces in the world today from Lady Gaga to Annie Leibovitz.
The setting of subjects against his signature black background creates a meditative atmosphere that suspends time and focuses on the quintessence of his subject, stripping the “celebrity” from the famous, and “mundane” from the ubiquitous object.
In 2009, Weiss was struck with an illness causing blindness and immobility for six weeks. During this time, on his hospital bed, Weiss made a promise to himself to “photograph the great in heart, in mind, and in spirit, whether they be famous or humble.” as stated by his role model, Yousuf Karsh. If Weiss ever regained his sight, no time would be taken for granted and he would devote himself fully to the creation and sharing of his art.
In a world where virtually every hand can hold a camera, Weiss’ touch can be felt in every image he produces. His curiosity toward the world and constant search for insightful narratives can be seen from a small goldfish to sprawling aerial landscapes.
